H-D Chrome Lowers
WHY? Head buffeting. That's what results from the wind blast that is directed up and over the fuel tank and off your helmet. It's not terminal but it can be extremely uncomfortable, particularly on a long ride. When I added the detachable windshield to the Softail it offered pretty decent protection, but I still experienced quite a bit of head buffeting. I've had the problem with other motorcycles, so I knew that it is often corrected with a good set of lowers; OEM lowers (wind deflectors) are available, so I decided to give them a try. Not wanting to pay the local dealer the $66.50 retail price, I decided to look for a better deal online; I've heard great things about Zanotti Motor Co. so I logged on to their site to do some shopping. The site isn't very shopper-friendly because you have to have part numbers to check prices, but prices are very good. I found the lowers (H-D part # 58125-90B) for $49.80 plus shipping, placed the order online and paid via credit card on their secure page. SERVICE. Excellent. After ordering I received a confirmation email from Zanotti's parts department, and when the order shipped they sent another email with a tracking number. The lowers were shipped within 48 hours of ordering, and they arrived at my door via UPS ground four days later. I've done a great deal of shopping online, and I believe that Zanotti's service is about as good as I've seen; other vendors would do well to take note. The lowers arrived well-packed and undamaged; installation instructions were included. INSTALLATION. This is a very simple installation and could be managed by just about any owner with a simple set of tools. Though the instructions were included they weren't really necessary; the lowers simply bolted into place using the stock mounting hardware for the windshield. The job was done in less than 10 minutes. RESULTS. Really good--a test ride at 70 MPH revealed that the head buffeting was entirely eliminated! The air behind the windshield is now calm, and the ride is much more comfortable. This small addition made the Softail a totally different bike! Worth the money? Absolutely. Without a doubt, this is the best $50 I've spent on this bike.
