H-D Leather Toolbox
WHY? Storage--you can't get enough of it. I have a very nice set of tools that was taking up way too much room in my saddlebags so I was very interested when I saw an OEM leather toolbox listed in an eBay auction. This item was new but was a discontinued model; it is very similar to toolbox #64260-00 in the 2006 catalog. The retail on this item is $104.95, but I was able to snag it for a winning bid of $54. SERVICE. N/A. INSTALLATION. The toolbox arrived in its original box; it included all the mounting hardware but without installation instructions. Getting it mounted wasn't exactly rocket science, however, and it was a job well within the capabilities of the average home mechanic. I discovered very quickly that the mounting bracket would not work on my bike as the oil tank interfered with it. A little work with the bench grinder created a notch in the bracket, however, and it slid right into place. The leather toolbox attached to the bracket using 3 supplied bolts; I used a little blue Loctite to ensure that they stayed in place. The entire process took me less than 15 minutes. RESULTS. Excellent. I really like the classic look of this teardrop-shaped toolbox, and it is large enough (11 inches long) to carry a sizeable collection of tools. It is made with heavy-grade leather with a PVC back and has a top flap that covers and protects the zipper opening. Worth the money? Yep--even at the list price I would consider this item a nice addition. At $54 it's a heckuva deal! |
